Welcome to Bumblebee! Our 4 bedroom, 3 bath oceanfront beach cottage is located in beautiful Topsail Beach, North Carolina, 4 miles south of the Surf City bridge onto Topsail Island. We are located just past Tower 3 of the United States Navy’s top-secret missile testing project on the island in the 1940s called Operation Bumblebee. Our proximity to one of the nine original observation towers – all of which remain on the island in one form or another – as well as the operation’s historical significance to Topsail, itself, inspired us to name our cottage after it.
We purchased this wonderful beach house in May 2015. As first-time vacation home owners we had no idea what to expect but were absolutely thrilled with the response we received after partnering with HomeAway/VRBO, booking our entire first rental season in just a few short weeks. Fortunately for all, our second season in 2016 went just as smoothly for both our repeat guests and new vacationers. Since that time, we love having "our Topsail families" return each summer and they tell us Bumblebee feels like home.
The primary feature of Bumblebee - in addition to its premier location - is an incredible view from virtually anywhere in the cottage. Six sets of ocean-facing sliding glass doors, including a giant 9-foot wide set off of the main living area, provide unparalleled views of the Atlantic Ocean and Topsail Beach. Three sets on the upper level each open to the upper balcony which is perfect for sunning or taking in uninterrupted end-to-end views of the beach. The three sets on the main level open to a balcony which is shaded from the upper one. You'll spend hours here in one of the rocking chairs.
From the staircase of the main entrance on the sound side of the home you'll enter through a fully screened-in porch. The porch has seating for 8, including a table for outdoor meals or playing board and card games.
Once inside the cottage you'll find a fully-stocked kitchen with full-size refrigerator, oven, cook-top, and microwave, a dining table with seating for 10, living room, including a pull-out sofa-sleeper, flat-screen Roku TV, WiFi internet access.
Also on the main level is one bedroom with ocean views and balcony access via sliding glass doors. It has a large flat-screen TV, closet and a chest of drawers. A full bath and storage closet complete the main level.
On the upper level you'll find a large hallway with two full baths as bookends, both renovated in 2017. One has a walk-in shower with built-in seating. The other has a standard size tub/shower combo. The upper level bedrooms on either end feature queen beds, closets, and chests of drawers. Both have flat-screen TVs. The middle bedroom contains two twin bunk beds for a total of four beds, two chests of drawers.
A large, fully-enclosed walk-in outdoor shower with changing area is on the ground level just off the covered parking pad. There is enough covered parking for 2 vehicles and the driveway will hold another 3. On this level you'll also find a laundry room with full-size washer and dryer, and an outdoor grill.
Fresh, clean bed and bath linens for 10 people are included in the posted rates. Just bring your favorite beach towels. We provide a few rafts and boogie boards for you to use at your discretion, but you will need to bring chairs and an umbrella.
