The Sea Salt Cottage is a charming and comfortable 1905 class vintage seasonal cottage located on quiet, peaceful, picturesque Bailey Island, Maine. Facing due East toward Casco Bay, you can enjoy the sunrise, watch the lobster boats, or enjoy the sound of the crashing surf while relaxing and taking time off from your busy life.
The cottage is located steps from the walking trail to the Giant Stairs, where you can enjoy the rocky Maine coast in all of its glory. Make it a must-do! Ocean views from every window, with the constant ocean breezes, the cottage has been updated with modern conveniences while maintaining its historic charm.
Brunswick, Maine, home of Bowdoin College, is only a 25-minute drive away. Bath, Freeport, Portland, and Boothbay are also within easy access. There is something for everyone, regardless if you like hiking, boating, sightseeing, cruising on the ocean, shopping, antiquing, eating lobster, enjoying nature, or just relaxing. This cottage is away from it all, but close enough to a good grocery store and every convenience you would need within a 15-minute drive. Locally, within 5 minutes or less, we love a trip to BIGS, Bailey Island General Store, Cook' Lobster House for a sunset cocktail and meal, and The Cribstone Grill for creative cocktails and lobster rolls.
The East-facing front of the cottage has a grand covered front porch from which you can enjoy an ocean view, incredible sunrises, and is complete with outdoor table and chairs with seating for 8. Morning coffee just tastes better on the front porch, rain, or shine. The large front lawn hosts four L.L. Bean Adirondack chairs for lounging while enjoying the ocean view. A gas grill is available for your use to cook fresh fish purchased at local markets. The back lawn is large enough for a good game of badminton or frisbee. At night, the stargazing is incredible from the deck or from the small lawn in front of the property. Don't miss the Milky Way if the sky is clear, or the moon rising over the ocean on a warm summer night! On the West side of the cottage is another deck, which is perfect for relaxing when you get tired of watching the ocean waves.
Inside the front door of the cottage is the great room with exposed beams, a gas remote-controlled fireplace, a brand new comfy sectional couch, and a handcrafted dining room table made from wood from the upstairs vintage cistern, all with an ocean view. For those chilly nights, the cottage has 2 gas heaters and plenty of warm comforters and blankets. A smart flat-screen TV with cable for your Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, or Hulu fix, a cupboard full of board games and puzzles, and paperback books provide entertainment. Wi-fi is available throughout the house. Or you can just chill on the porch and smell the ocean air while using the yoga mats.
A large kitchen has everything a cook could need and more, including a new microwave, dishwasher, lobster pot, combination Keurig style/drip coffeemaker, stainless steel pots, and cast-iron skillets, electric range, and full refrigerator. The kitchen has the original beadboard cupboards and open shelving and has every tool you need, some basic spices and condiments, and a blend of vintage and new glassware and cookware. We love to cook and made sure if you do, you have the tools you need. Sit and sip your morning coffee while you gaze out the kitchen window at the ocean.
The full, downstairs bathroom has ship lathe wooden walls, black and white ceramic mosaic tile, subway tile shower, and a rain shower head with a hand spray hose. The toilet and pedestal sink are also vintage style. Ample shelf space and storage space is provided for your toiletries and towels are provided.
There is a small storage area/mudroom adjacent to the bathroom which opens to the west-facing back deck and provides easy access to your car. Electric heat is provided for those chilly evenings. Our well supplies shower and sinks with water, and we supply drinking water for your convenience.
Up the stairwell, there are 3 bedrooms on the second floor. The Master bedroom has ocean views from 2 sets of windows, a king-sized bed, a ceiling fan, and an exposed beam ceiling. The 2nd bedroom also faces the ocean on 2 sides and has a full-size bed and a ceiling fan. The 3rd bedroom has an ocean view on one side and has 2 twin beds. Between the bedrooms is a 1/2 bath with black and white basket-weave, mosaic ceramic tile, and vintage style new plumbing fixtures. Ample storage space is provided in every bedroom.
We have 2 off-street parking spaces and our cottage sleeps 6. No pets, please. Feel free to water the gardens and potted plants if it does not rain. We love it when you care for the cottage as if it was yours. And don't forget to sign our guest book, as we love to hear from you!
